Hamideh Abbasali has become the first Iranian female to gain medal at World Karate Championship.
In final match plus 68 Kg class of 2104 Bremen World Karate Championship, Abbasali lost the game to Egyptian Shima Abolyazid to gain the silver medal.
Iranian female Karateka lost the final match in a tight 2-1 competition.
In the preliminary round of the World Karate Competitions, Abbasali had gained a rest in drawing lots and in order to reach the final match she had to beat the athletes of Belgium, Spain, Holland, and the Hungary.
Abbasali’s medal in the 2104 Bremen World Karate Championship is the first Iranian females’ medal in world competitions of this martial arts field, and therefore of great significance in the country’s history of sports.
Some 900 athletes from at least 107 countries have taken part in the 22nd World Senior Championships in Germany’s northern city of Bremen, according to the tournament’s official website.
This round of the tournament kicked off on November 5 and will end on November 9.
Last month, Abbasali won old in women 68kg Karate class of Asian Games 2014 in Incheon, South Korea.
