KLM Royal Dutch Airlines resumed services to the Iranian capital of Tehran from Saturday night.
According to Luchtzak Aviation website, a trade delegation, led by Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and the Environment Melanie Schultz van Haegen, travelled on the flight.
“KLM is extremely pleased to resume its flights to Teheran after three years. What’s more, we’re honored that Minister Schultz and members of the trade delegation are joining us on the flight”, René de Groot, Chief Operating Officer of KLM said.
Schultz van Haegen, in turn, said: “These flights to Teheran add a new dimension to KLM’s strong network. They will also be beneficial to the Dutch companies I will be joining on this trade mission, helping them to do business in Iran.”
According to earlier reports, four weekly services will be operated between Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport and Tehran.
Flight KL0433 will depart from Amsterdam at 17.40 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, arriving in Tehran at 01.20 (local time).
The return flight, KL0434, will depart from Tehran at 03.20, arriving in Amsterdam at 06.45.
The flights will be operated with a Boeing 777-200 in a three-class configuration with 34 business seats, 40 seats in economy comfort and 242 seats in economy.
Tehran will be the 14th new destination KLM has added to its network in 2016.
KLM operated services to Tehran from July 1991 until it suspended the route in April 2013. Airline officials said at the time of stopping the route that the decision was based on economic rather than political reasons.

Three years ago I and my Spanish wife flew to Tehran with KLM and left Tehran on the last flight out of Tehran offered by KLM. It was so sad to hear KLM was leaving Iran for unknown period of time, and it is very pleasing that finally KLM decided to resume flights to Tehran.
