Iranian private airline Mahan Air will inaugurate the first direct flight between Spain and Iran next June, the Spanish ambassador to Iran, Eduardo López Busquets, announced on February 7.
Specifically, the company will begin direct flights from Tehran to Barcelona starting in June and will try to “launch direct flights with Madrid in the near future,” the ambassador added, quoted by state news agency IRNA.
“Last year, 20,000 Iranians traveled to Spain,” Lopez Busquets continued during a meeting in Tehran with the director of the Organization of Cultural Heritage, Crafts and Tourism of Iran, Zahra Ahmadipour.
“The opening of direct flights will greatly increase the exchange of tourists between the two countries,” he added.
Last week, Mahan started operating direct flights to Baku.
Mahan started operating in 1992 as the first private carrier in Iran, and has grown to own the largest fleet among Iranian carriers.
