Iran has defeated the United States 3-0 at a home volleyball match attended by 12,000 people.
Iran won the first set 25-19, the second by 29-27 and the third by 25-20 in the FIVB world league series Friday at Azadi Stadium in the capital, Tehran.
The United States, which was the champion of the 2014 round, beat the Iranian squad 3-1 in two matches in May.
Having steered the Iranian squad to its first-ever World League victory over the United States, the host’s Serbian boss Slobodan Kovač hailed his boys’ performance, saying, “It was a very difficult game for both teams but we can still do much better.”
Shahram Mahmoudi scored 17 points to help Iran break US unbeaten record.
The two rivals are scheduled to meet once again on Sunday.
Iran is also set to take on Poland on June 26 and 28 and will play against Russia on July 3 and 4.
