Iranian researchers, for the first time, managed to design and manufacture recreational, commercial and rescue hovercrafts.
“Tehran-based Damon engineering company has successfully completed the design and construction of one- and two-person hovercrafts”, Damon‘s chairman of the board Farzad Taherkhani told reporters.
He added that the whole process of design, engineering, and construction is done in Iran and Damon private Co. plans to manufacture six-person hovercrafts over two next years.
“Hovercraft is a motor vehicle with unique special abilities that can facilitate rescue services at river flood events.” Taherkhani told.
According to Taherkhani, Damon currently has a production capacity of 50 hovercrafts per year and in the case, the anticipated foreign exchange savings for the country might be around one billion and one hundred and fifty million tomans.
“Damon’s hovercrafts have a world-class performance and they can use exactly the same engine as world’s most reputable companies such as Universal Hovercraft of America.” Damon chairman noted.
A hovercraft, also known as an air-cushion vehicle or ACV, is a craft capable of travelling over land, water, mud or ice and other surfaces. Hovercrafts are hybrid vessels operated by a pilot as an aircraft rather than a captain as a marine vessel.
Hovercraft has become an effective transport system for high-speed service on water and land, leading to widespread developments for military vehicles, search and rescue, and commercial operations.
