Iran Ski Resorts: All you need to know


Offering the best skiing resorts in the Middle East, Iran has numerous mountains with high peaks and appropriate slopes for all types of skiing, attracting domestic and foreign tourists interested in skiing.

Dizin Ski Slope, spread over 550 hectares, is the first international ski piste of Iran. International Ski Federation has approved Dizin for official ski competitions.

Dizin boasts hotels, cottages and restaurants. It has 23 numerous pistes such as snow park, grass ski resort and pistes for beginners.

It also has numerous facilities such as a ski school, cable car, and chair lift.

At Dizin, one can ski from December through May — longer than the resorts of Europe.

Other ski pistes near Tehran are Abali, Tochal and Darband.

Shemshak Ski Resort is also situated in northeast Tehran on the Alborz mountain range. It became operational in 1958.

It includes two ski lifts and facilities for three dish tele-skiing and two Hammer tele-skiing.

The slopes of Shemshak attain an altitude ranging between 2,550 meters and 3,050 meters above sea level. The resort includes two main slopes, each with a chair lift that reaches the top and several lifts. There are also lighting facilities for night skiing.

Tochal’s peak, at an altitude of 3,964 meters above sea level, is located in northern Tehran. It offers ideal conditions for those who love skiing in the Middle East.

Access to the location is possible via cable car that operates from the north of Velenjak district in Tehran.

A modern hotel has recently been built at the peak for skiers wishing to stay in a well-equipped accommodation. You can combine Tochal with Dizin during your stay in Tehran so that you can ski at both places. Also, it can be part of your list as an alternative for the second time you go skiing in Iran.

Shemshak can be reached after a 55-minute drive from Tehran, 10km from middle-slope parking of Dizin and five km from Darband-Sar ski resort.

Alvares Ski Piste near Sarein, Ardabil Province, is the largest in the county.

Alvares is the second standard ski resort in Iran after Dizin.

With an altitude of 3,200 meters above sea level, it is located 24 km from Sarein, near Ardabil. You can also opt for skiing in other parts of Iran such as Mount Alvand in Hamedan and Mount Zardkouh near Shahr-e-Kord, which also have ski resorts.

Also, Poolad Kaf Piste, 85 km to the northwest of Shiraz, Fars Province, hosts many local residents as well as Iranian and foreign tourist. It boasts special facilities such as ski school, cable car, minibus, restaurant, coffee shop, and a four-star hotel with a traditional teahouse.

Kakan Ski Piste, at an altitude of 2,850 meters, is located 18 km from Yasouj, in Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad Province. A snowman festival is held there annually.
