Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has expressed deep regret over a spike in coronavirus infections, calling on Iranians to fully adhere to health guidelines in a bid to break the chain of the outbreak.
Addressing lawmakers at Iran’s parliament in a video conference call Sunday, the Leader described the resurgence of virus cases and daily deaths as a “bitter reality” even as he praised the medical personnel for their sacrifices.
Referring to the fact that the country is moving away from its initial success in fighting the coronavirus pandemic, Ayatollah Khamenei urged government institutions, aid groups, and the entire nation to “play their role in the best way so that we can break the infection chain in the short term and lead the country to the shore of safety.”
The Leader touched on Iran’s economic problems, likening them to a disease.
Nevertheless, “due to its strong staying power and resistance, the country is certainly capable of overcoming the disease just as the enemies today admit that they have not been able to achieve their anti-Iran goals despite their toughest sanctions and all-out pressure,” he added.
Ayatollah Khamenei said he is confident that the economic problems can be solved if national self-reliance is boosted, especially among the youth.
