The opening ceremony of ‘National Nowruz Ritual Exhibition’ was held on Tuesday in National Museum of Iran conference hall in Tehran.
The ceremony attended by President Hassan Rouhani’s adviser on political and security affairs Ali Younesi, Head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) Masoud Soltanifar and some other state officials.
Addressing the ceremony, Soltanifar said Iran pioneered an initiative to inscribe Nowruz on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
“No ritual manifests a world of peace like Nowruz does,” Tasnim News quoted Soltanifar as saying.
Soltanifar also made a reference to President Hassan Rouhani’s comments, saying Nowruz is the symbol of orderliness in Iran and should be employed to display the pacific nature of the country in the globe.
The Persian New Year of Nowruz falls on the first day of spring, between March 19 and March 22.
The word Nowruz literally means “new day” in the Persian language and the festivity marks the beginning of spring and the new Iranian year.
In 2010, the UN General Assembly established March 21 as the International Day of Nowruz. The UN also celebrates the International Day of Happiness, which falls on March 20 every year.
In 2009, Nowruz was officially added to UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
