Poland has enormous achievements in road and railroad construction, and it would like to share its experience with Iran, the Polish chairman of the Inland Transport Committee at the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), Jerzy Kleniewski, said.
Addressing the Iran Transportation and Urban Development Summit, Kleniewski said he is looking forward to future cooperation and coordination through Iranian and Polish embassies in Warsaw and Tehran to arrange related projects in the post-sanctions era, Trend correspondent reported from Tehran Oct. 4.
He added that in the past five years, his country has invested as much as 40 billion euros in road and another 20 billion euros in railroad construction.
Chalous Road, Northern Iran
According to Kleniewski, Poland is planning to invest 60 billion euros to road construction and 40 billion euros to railroad construction in the next seven years, indicating the country’s capabilities in the related areas.
The UN official also invited Iran to become a member of the global transportation community.
“If you decide to do something you need to go through the gate of the UN body [UNECE]. Iran is involved in these activities [road construction]. We have 58 global and international conventions. On behalf of the committee, I invite you to ratify the community of the transportation family,” Kleniewski said.

He added that safety and security, as well as transport corridors, are the present UN factors in transportation policy-making.
“As for Iran, there is the new Silk Way, which goes directly through Iran and there will be benefit for all of us in it,” he noted.
