The eight members of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) will meet in Tehran on Monday for the third meeting of fuel-exporting countries.
The forum will be opened in Tehran on November 23 by Iranian President Hassan Rohani, and prior to the meeting of the heads of the member countries, their ministers of oil and energy will meet beginning November 20.
Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh announced that the presidents of Russia, Iraq, Venezuela, Bolivia, Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea will participate in the Tehran summit. The Prime Minister of Algeria and President of Turkmenistan will participate as special guests.
The last forum took place in July of 2013 in Moscow and prior to that in Doha Qatar. The forum is currently chaired by Iranian Mohammad Hossein Adeli.
Algeria, Bolivia, Brunei, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Libya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Arab Emirates and Venezuela are members of the forum. The members have control over 70 percent of the world’s gas reserves. Iran, with 333 trillion cubic metres in proven reserves, has the greatest reserves.
